Stanley Alan Grezlik, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army retired 56, surrounded by family passed away on March 15, 2010. He was born April 5, 1953, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio and raised by his mother Lois (Bartholomew) Jackson and step-father, Vernon Meek.

He attended Uhrichsville and Dennison, OH schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 in Feb 1971, as a private. Before the end of 1971, he had been promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the 1st Bn, 508th Inf, 82nd Abn Div, Ft Bragg, NC. In 1975 he was assigned as Drill Sergeant at Fort Dix, NJ, where he was Drill Sergeant of the Year in 1977. In 1981, while serving with the 1st Bn, 35th Inf, 25th Inf Div in Hawaii, as a Sergeant First Class, he received a direct commission to Second Lieutenant in the Infantry and assigned to the 101st Abn Div, Ft. Campbell, KY. While at Ft. Campbell, he was Company Commander with 2nd Bn, 327th Inf and part of a rotational contingent with the Multinational Force and Observers, Sinai, Egypt. In 1985 he was assigned to the Combined Arms Department, Fort Harrison, IN, as an instructor. In 1991 he was assigned to the Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Alexandria, VA, where he served as Test and Evaluation Officer for several developing weapons systems. He was assigned as the Battalion Executive Officer of 1st Bn, 506th Inf, 2nd Inf Div at Camp Greaves, Korea in 1994. Returning to Ft Harrison in 1995, he served as an Infantry Team Chief with Readiness Group Harrison until he took command of the 2nd Inf Training Bn, Ft Harrison. In 1999, he was assigned the U.S. Military Training Mission, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he served as the Inspector General and Deputy Chief of Staff. He returned to Ft Harrison in late 2000 and was assigned as Commander of 1st Bn, 205th Inf, 85th Div where he retired after 32 years active duty in September 2003. Lt Colonel Grezlik attended numerous service schools including the Air Command and General Staff College in 1994.

He received his BA in Human Resources in 1985 from Troy State University, Ft. Benning, GA, and his MA in Public Administration and Executive Development from Ball State University in 1990. During his career he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, seven awards of the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, two awards of the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Range Tab, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, the Korean Parachutists Badge, and other various recognitions. Since living in Indiana he became a serious Colts fan. After his retirement he worked as a substitute teacher for Avon Community School from 2006-2009, and belonged to the Westside Harley Owners Group. He was a member of the U.S. Army Infantry Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His favorite pastime was tending to his yard, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his beloved dog, Cuddles.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years wife Ruthie (Barrett), son Jason Grezlik of Ohio, daughter Katrina Wehner (David) and son Andrew Grezlik of Indianapolis. Other survivors include his brothers Thomas Grezlik (Doris) of New Philadelphia, OH, Mark Meek of Gaston, SC and David Meek (Linda) of Lexington, SC, his beloved niece Karmann and nephews, Ryan, Joshua, and Jarrett.

Visitation will be Friday, March 19, 2010, at Conkle Funeral Home, 76 North State Road 267, Avon, from 4 to 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be Saturday at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a future date.
