William Harrison "Bill" Hawkins 64, Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Wednesday January 27, 2010. He was born February 10, 1945 in Indianapolis to the late Lawrence Kelsey and Mary Julia (Dwyer) Hawkins.
Bill was a Petty Officer 2nd Class who served on the USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War (1963-1967) as a Fire Control Technician. He received the Vietnam Service Medal and Bronze Star. Following his service to his country, Bill graduated from Indiana University in 1971 with a degree in accounting and received his MBA in Finance in 1975. He was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a member of the International Business Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma. Bill was a successful entrepreneur and worked in the Auto Auction business. He was proud of his accomplishments to design advanced software for the tracking of vehicles for auction. Bill was an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500. He was proud of his Irish heritage and frequently demonstrated his Irish wit and humor.
He is survived by 4 siblings: Janet (John) Zetzl of Brownsburg, IN, Jim (Patricia) Hawkins of Ft. Myers, Fl, Karen (Buck) Teague of Clinton, MS, and Jeanne (Kent) VanTyle of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death in 2008 by his brother Larry Hawkins. He had 17 nieces and nephews and more than 20 great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Christopher Church in Speedway, Indiana on February 2, 2010 at 11 a.m., with calling from 10 a.m. until service time. There will also be visitation from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2010 at Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis.
